The world population is in decline, and though the age at which people are having children is on the increase and accounting for some of this, the fertility rates across all ranges, including those in their twenties and thirties, are also declining. Sperm rates alone have halved in the last 40 years and male infertility contributes up to 50% of the problems faced by heterosexual couples alone. And yet, despite IVF helping some and being necessary in others, on its own it doesn’t address the full spectrum of reasons as to why people are struggling, it doesn’t make people more fertile and therefore isn’t a cure for infertility, and as research is suggesting, it may also have epigenetic consequences, especially if certain issues are not addressed prior to pregnancy. Fertility is a barometer of someone’s overall state of wellbeing and difficulties with this offer a vital opportunity to look deeper at some of the issues that could be affecting a person’s health and intervene.
At the same time, due to a lack of investment, research and education as well as gender bias globally within our healthcare systems, many women are being left misdiagnosed, misunderstood and mistreated when it comes to their health. More and more are speaking out about the mental and emotional effects of not being listened to and how this has impacted their lives. The approach to women’s healthcare and fertility is fragmented, where a person often isn’t seen as a whole but rather a set of individual autonomous systems that don’t communicate with one another. I believe that fertility and wider health needs to be approached through a multidimensional lens of mind, body and spirit, all coming together to treat the person as a whole, through an endobiogenic approach and a new frontier where science unabashedly integrates the spiritual.
What you do to set the foundations before you become pregnant will pay dividends later, because the health of your baby is determined several months before you even consider conceiving. This is what ultimately co-creates your epigenetic profile. This time of preparation is far from passive, but is rather a crucial opportunity to restructure and reshape your health as well as your life.
The way I approach fertility is quite different from what you may have been led to expect from a doctor. As well as taking into account your medical history, I’m also interested in your psychological hygiene, your thought patterns, your life experiences all the way back to your childhood, your capacity for self-love and compassion and your family relationships, as well as the most important relationship of all: the one you have with yourself.
Research now shows that many of the reasons people aren’t getting pregnant – and a lot of the ways they can improve their chances of getting pregnant – lie in their environment and habits: namely, eating, exercise, stress and exposure to many chemicals.
Fertility is a balance of neurochemical, hormonal, immunological and other biological processes, all of which have important roles. These can impact on egg and sperm quality, influence your genes and affect cell repair and ageing, as well as lead to localized and whole-body inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, poorer mitochondrial function and repair, sensitization to the effect of stress on your body and impairment of the health of your microbiome (the colonies of health-promoting organisms found in the body) . . . all of which feed into your fertility and general wellness. But there are also other unseen and silent factors that affect the ability to conceive, and these relate to our minds and are not necessarily measurable, but can nonetheless leave significant imprints on the cells and tissues where fertility-related processes take place.
You may not have even thought about pregnancy yet, but being a mother or father is important to you at some point in the future. You may have a medical condition, such as PCOS or endometriosis, that you’d like holistic input over and a chance to look after your fertility. You may have been on long term hormonal contraception that’s disconnected you from the opportunity to develop an intimate relationship with your body and to understand its messages. Or you may be at the beginning of your conception journey, or have found yourself struggling over many months or years. You may have tried many forms of assisted reproductive technologies, or experienced the harrowing situation of baby loss. You may be at the point of utter despair, feeling you’ve lost all connection with yourself and the world around you, where your sense of confidence, purpose and even identity have been eroded. You haven’t felt heard or understood and you’re aware there’s a lot of unintegrated emotion that you’ve never had a means of expressing or dealing with. You may not even recognise yourself as the person you were before you started trying.
If you’re any of the above, I’m here to help to guide you through what can be a really confusing and uncertain time. The loss of control, hopelessness and helplessness you may be feeling can be difficult to navigate but is often proportionate to the difficulties you may have faced. Your mental, emotional and spiritual health matters as much as your physical wellbeing and, even more than that, if left untreated can directly impact your physical health. So, having a holistic approach that covers all of these areas should be the norm, not the rarity it is nowadays. We are multidimensional beings and we need approaches that marry all the different aspects of health in the modern age in order to view wellness through a unified lens. Health is not just the mere absence of disease. Rather, it is the ability to adapt and self manage in the face of social, physical and emotional challenges. It therefore needs a system that recognises this and doesn’t just react to but rather looks to prevent the onset of disease and conditions such as infertility.
It’s my sincerest desire to support you on a different path of self discovery and self belief where you’ll be guided to not only understand your situation better, but to engage in ways of managing that restore the power back to you, where you get to make the lasting changes that will determine the course of your health and the health of any children you have, for years to come. When a person becomes pregnant and births a child, they also give birth to a new version of themselves too. Our physicality, as well as spirituality and energetics are closely intertwined with every aspect of ourselves, including our health and wellbeing. Pregnancy and conception are really a means of establishing a connection with the deeper spiritual part of ourselves that leads us into further paths of growth and evolution. This is what the true meaning of being fertile is: the ability to evolve and transform from one state of being into another.

What is GlycanAge:
Our genes create proteins, but glycans are important in controlling the function of those proteins. They therefore provides a valuable insight into a person’s epigenome and the speed of their personal biological clock. The biological clock is driven by low grade inflammation, which is the result of a combination of the
genome and epigenome. Glycans are known to respond to lifestyle intervention, meaning that measuring the results after at least 3 months can show significant evidence of change. These are the first biomarkers of personalized medicine and have been shown to outperform all other currently available biomarkers.
Glycans are sugar molecules that are attached to various proteins and lipids in the body. GlycanAge specifically looks at the glycans found on immunoglobulin G, which is a key protein in the immune system. The presence and structure of glycans on immunoglobulin G are essential for its proper functioning. Glycans are functional effectors rather than classic passive biomarkers because they have a
direct impact on the immune response in the body.
GlycanAge analysis involves examining 29 different glycan structures from your blood sample. These structures are grouped into indexes, with some promoting chronic inflammation and others offering protection against it. The combined data is used to calculate GlycanAge, representing the current age of your immune
system, which can also provide a valuable insight into your own fertile window. In addition to which, a GlycanAge analysis can also detect the onset of certain conditions up to 10 years before they occur, such as the menopause and andropause, therefore allowing an opportunity for the individual to be able to impact this through lifestyle intervention.
